Itinerary
The journey begins at Dibrugarh, Assam, which serves as the nearest airport and railway hub for reaching Mechuka. Upon arrival in the morning, you will be welcomed by a representative of North East Explorer. Please ensure your Arunachal Pradesh Inner Line Permit (ILP), which we will have arranged and forwarded in advance, is ready for presentation. We commence our drive towards the Assam-Arunachal border, gradually leaving behind Dibrugarh’s urban landscape.
The scenic drive from Dibrugarh to Along is adorned with numerous photo opportunities. Feel free to request stops to absorb the fresh mountain air and capture the stunning vistas. By early evening, you will check into a thoughtfully appointed homestay in Along, which itself offers a charming retreat. After settling in, take a leisurely walk around to familiarize yourself with the surroundings. Prepare for an exciting adventure ahead.
Today marks the beginning of the true wilderness experience. Departing from Along, the journey to Mechuka takes you deeper into Arunachal Pradesh’s remote landscapes. The connectivity diminishes, enhancing the sense of isolation and tranquility. Along the route, traditional stilted homes line the road, showcasing unique local architecture distinct from other parts of Arunachal Pradesh.
As you traverse the rugged terrain, the Siyom River remains a constant companion, guiding your way. A notable highlight en route is the Siko Dido Waterfalls, a mesmerizing natural spectacle nestled along the road to Mechuka. Upon arrival in Mechuka, check into a simple yet comfortable homestay, and unwind by a traditional Bukhari (fireplace), soaking in the peaceful surroundings.
After a restful night and hearty breakfast, your exploration of Mechuka begins. The day starts with a visit to the New Gompa, a serene monastery that offers insights into local spiritual life. Following this, embark on a leisurely hike to the iconic Mechuka-la viewpoint. The trail offers stunning vistas at every turn, culminating in panoramic views of the town below. This tranquil spot provides an ideal opportunity for reflection and appreciation of the untouched beauty surrounding you.
Later, visit the quaint Dorjelling village to engage with local residents and learn about their traditional lifestyles. A short trip to Tsokorphu village follows, offering further cultural immersion. Conclude the day with a visit to the Yargapchu River, where you can relax amidst natural beauty and tranquility.
Dedicated to exploring the region’s historical and spiritual landmarks, this day includes visits to several notable sites. Begin with the Old Gompa, a 400-year-old monastery that stands as a testament to the region’s spiritual heritage. The scenic ascent to this monastery offers mesmerizing views and a sense of history.
Next, travel to Lhalung village to explore the historic Tibet Road, which bears witness to the area’s cultural exchanges. The journey continues to the Gurudwara in Mechuka, believed to be associated with Guru Nanak Dev Ji, who is said to have meditated here during his travels. This revered site, maintained by the Indian Army, underscores the spiritual significance of the region.
In the afternoon, enjoy local cuisine at the village market and explore the vibrant local scene. The evening remains free for personal exploration or relaxation.
After three enriching nights in Mechuka, commence the return journey in the morning. Early departure allows for an extended exploration of tribal villages around Aalo, providing an authentic experience of local life and fostering meaningful interactions with residents.
By evening, arrive in Along and settle into your homestay, reflecting on the memorable days behind you. This return marks a transition from the remote wilderness to more accessible terrain, with improved mobile connectivity.
Following breakfast, begin the return trip along the same scenic route back to Dibrugarh. As you retrace your journey, cherish the myriad memories created and the friendships forged. The journey concludes upon arrival in Dibrugarh, bringing an end to this extraordinary expedition. While the trip concludes here, the connections and experiences gained will resonate long after.
