Overview

Maa Kamakhya and Kameshwai temple is renowned Goddess of Desire in the heart of Nilachala Hills, situated in the western part of Guwahati. The origin of the temple dates back to the mythological ages when it is said that Sati the first wife of Lord Shiva upon self immolation was cut into 51 pieces and her sexual organ fell on the Nilachal hills where later on the Kamakhya temple was built by Kaamdev with the help of Lord Bishwakarma and was named. It is consisdered a most sacred and oldest of the 51 Shakti peethas on earth.

Itinerary

Arrival on Guwahati Airport or Railway Station, you will visit Kalakshetra, the largest cultural congregation in Northeast India. You can see here a cultural museum and play games in the children’s park. It has various facilities for demonstrating, preserving, and performing cultural items.

After visiting Kalakshetra, head to the Basistha Ashram, the home of sage Vasishtha, who is known to be Lord Ram’s Guru.  You will shop for souvenirs, designer clothes, and home items from the Handicraft Market and Fancy Bazaar. Fancy Bazaar is Guwahati’s biggest flea market, housing street stalls, little shops, and setups. You can get here your favorite products at discounted prices. Its numerous food joints and unending alleyways are an absolute paradise for shopping enthusiasts.

Overnight at the hotel.

After breakfast, and then get ready to visit the Kamakhya Temple. The Kamakhya Temple is situated on Nilachal Hills and testifies to the rich history and cultural heritage of Guwahati. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Kamakhya and exudes an aura of ancient traditions and mystique. It is a sacred spot where the power of Goddess Kamakhya attracts devotees from all over the world. When visiting the temple, you’re recommended to obtain a special pass else you’ll have to wait in long lines for the divine darshan. After seeking the blessings of Goddess Kamakhya, you’ll charter a ferry that will take you to Umananda Temple. Umananda Temple is a famous temple perched in the middle of the Brahmaputra River on Peacock Island. It was built by Borphukan Garhganya Handique in 1694 AD on King Gadadhar Singha’s order. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva and holds immense prominence amongst the Hindus. After a blissful visit to the Umananda Temple,  head to the Sukreswar Ghat and Navagraha Temple. Spend your evening enjoying the river cruise in the Brahmaputra River.

Overnight in Guwahati.

After breakfast, then head to the Bhimashankar Temple, one of India’s twelve jyotirlinga shrines. It was constructed in the twelfth century in the Indo-Aryan and Nagara style of architecture. Stay in awe as you see the temple walls that display the iconic scenes from Ramayana, Shiv Puran, Dashavataras, and Krishna Leela. After that, you’ll be dropped at Guwahati Airport, from where you will continue your forward journey, taking back delightful memories of the trip.

  • if booking is 30 days before the travel date: 100% refund for International Packages.
  • Between 30 days to 15 date before the travel date 10% of the total cost will be deducted on International Packages.
