Snow Leopard Trails

Overview

Leh is in the valley of the upper Indus River, surrounded by the Ladakh Range. It's located at an altitude of 11,550 ft. It has many monasteries, including Shey, Hemis, Alchi, Thikse, and Lamayuru. The town also has the ruins of Leh Palace, the former residence of the royal family of Ladakh.

Itinerary

On arrival at leh airport, you will meet our representative and transfer to the hotel, check in to the hotel. Welcome to Leh, the capital of Ladakh, the highest settlement area in India. Give yourself time to acclimatize at more than 3,500 m altitude the day is at your leisure. Overnight at leh.

After breakfast we will drive to "Thiskey Village" visit Thiksey monastery and drive to Shey Village to visit Shey Palace and Gompa. Continue drive to Hemis monastery to visit one of the most famous monasteries of Ladakh. On the way back to Leh Visit Stok Palace and Museum.

Hemis Gompa:  40 Kms from Leh, it is the wealthiest, best known and biggest Gompa of Ladakh. Its popularity stems from the major annual festival held here in summer.  It also has the largest Thanka in Ladakh which is unfurled once in 12 years Hemis was built in 1630 during the reign of Singge Namgyal, an illustrious ruler of Ladakh. After breakfast we will drive to Tsokar Lake, towards Leh Manali highway crossing the third highest Motorable road known as Tanglangla pass. It is known as 'White Lake' because the white salt of the water deposits all over the lake shores.It is the smallest lake among the three important lakes in Ladakh. Tso-kar Lake is situated in Rupshu Valley, about 250 kms from its principle town, Leh. It is located at an altitude of 4660m/15280ft in the Changthang region of Ladakh. It is very popular with bird watchers. The area surrounding Tso-kar lake is rich with wildlife and birds. It is surrounded by the marshlands that host amazing bird life which include Brahmni ducks, bar-headed geese and the great crested grebe. The most easily spotted mammals here are Kiangs, the largest of the wild asses. The hills and mountains around Tso Kar are also home to ibex, snow foxes and also snow leopards.

Overnight at Leh.

After breakfast you will drive to Zingchen. 1hrs where our ponies will be waiting for us to ferry our baggage to the camp site. Our baggage’s are loaded we march towards Husing our first camp site where our camp will already be set up. On arrival you will be serve with some hot welcome drinks. The walking approximate walking will be 1 hrs. 

Husing is the epicentre of three prominent valleys well known for sighting of Snow Leopard also known globally as “The world capital of Snow Leopard.”

In the early morning excursion to the trails frequented by the ever elusive Snowleopard and will teach you how to interpret through local art and techniques of smelling of rock sand, reading of pug mark, scrape, scat  and rock-face rubbing of the snow leopard.

After breakfast you will identify "hot spots" vantage points through mapping and tracking also, techniques in gaining confidence of the villagers so that they can alert and relay instant information of any signs and actual sightsings of the snow leopard.

After breakfast you will identify "hot spots". Snowleopard and will teach you how to interpret through local art and techniques of smelling of rock sand (smell of urine of the leopard), reading of pug mark, scrape (digging of ground by the animal), scat (stool) and rock-face rubbing of the snow leopard.

After breakfast you will walk from husing rumbak Doh to Zinchen where the vehicles are waiting to take you back to Uley Village, Arrive at Ulley village, the centre of three interlocking valleys that support approximately 12 snow leopards according to the last census. It is settle in and take time to acclimatise to the higher altitude of Ulley. The advantage of Ulley is that it is relatively free of tourism and from here you explore three valleys which apart from snow leopards are great for finding urial, ibex, wolf and Himalayan fox. Track Snow leopards for next 2 days with your expert guide, searching Uley and its surrounding mountains for the big cat often referred to as 'The Ghost of the Himalaya'. You will be amazed at the sheer dedication and commitment your guide brings to his trade and the effort he makes to ensure that his guests leave happy.

Overnight at Ulley.

Track Snow leopards for next 2 days with your expert guide, searching Uley and its surrounding mountains for the big cat often referred to as 'The Ghost of the Himalaya'. You will be amazed at the sheer dedication and commitment your guide brings to his trade and the effort he makes to ensure that his guests leave happy. Guides interact closely with the local people and use the network of local intelligence to narrow down the likely sites. In the process there will also be plenty of opportunity for you to get insights into local folklore, as well as learn about local customs and traditions.

Overnight in Leh.

Alchi Gompa. The complex of temples located within the village is the most celebrated of Ladakh’s monasteries and dates back to the 11th century. Alchi is also part of the three villages which constitute the ‘Alchi group of monuments’ the other two villages adjoining Alchi are the Mangyu and Sumda Chun. The monuments in these three villages are stated to be of “unique style and workmanship, but the Alchi monastic complex is the best known.

After breakfast check out at the hotel, transferred to the airport for onward destination.

  • If travel is within 15 days of the travel date: We will require 100% payment.

Cancellation Policy

  • If booking is 15 days before the travel date: 100% refund for Domestic Packages.
  • if booking is 30 days before the travel date: 100% refund for International Packages.
  • Between 30 days to 15 date before the travel date 10% of the total cost will be deducted on International Packages.
  • Between 15 days to 1 Day before the travel date: 100% cancellation on Domestic & International Packages.
