Leh is the joint capital of Ladakh and was once the capital of the Himalayan kingdom of Ladakh. Leh has many attractions, including the Old Town, Leh Palace, and many religious sites. covers about 45,000 square miles (117,000 square km) and contains the Ladakh Range, which is a southeastern extension of the Karakoram Range, and the upper Indus River valley. It is one of the highest regions of the world. Its natural features consist mainly of high plains and deep valleys. The highest farmed fields close to the Tso- Moriri lake at Korzok and the highest arena on earth at Siachen Glacier. It has the highest bridge in the world. It is a land where gravity fails. Pangong Lake is special because it is one of the highest lakes in the world, and it is also the largest saltwater lake in Asia. It is also known for its spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and its vibrant blue-green waters.

Itinerary

A greeting like a shout of joy! Welcome to Leh, the capital of Ladakh, the highest settlement area in India. You will be picked up at the airport and taken to the hotel. Give yourself time to acclimatize at more than 3,500 m altitude - the day is at your leisure.

Start the day relaxed. After your lunch, explore Leh. With around 13,000 inhabitants, the city exudes a tranquil, casual atmosphere. You will see the white Shanti stupa from 1991, which offers a beautiful view of the city and its surroundings. Your next destination, the Sankar Gompa Monastery, sits picturesquely amid shimmering poplars and barley fields and serves as the residence of the head of the Gelug-pa sect. Marvel at the statue of the goddess Tara with 1,000 arms and heads and the 400-year-old royal palace on Tsenmo Hill, which dominates the cityscape and reflects Tibetan architecture and influences from Lhasa's Potala Palace.

Your full day trip takes you to the surrounding area of Leh. To the south lies a fertile plain created by the Indus River. Imposing Buddhist monuments and monasteries can be found here. On the way to Hemis, visit Shey, the former capital of Ladakh and see the ruins of the palace with beautiful murals and a monumental Buddha statue made of gilded copper. I think you will see the most architecturally impressive monastery in Ladakh, which reveals majestic views over the vast plain of the Indus Valley. In Hemis you have time to get to know the largest monastery in Ladakh. Every monastery celebrates its mask festival every July. The festival in Hemis is one of the most magnificent.

After breakfast we head along the Indus to Chemrey Monastery. Then you drive to Chang La Pass , where at an altitude of 5,300 m there is a small temple from which countless prayer flags carry people's wishes to the world. We continue through the spectacular mountain landscape into an almost untouched side valley in the border region with China. The saltwater lake Pangong Tso is 134 km long and a maximum of 8 km wide. A small part of the lake lies in India and almost 60% in Tibet. A variety of migratory birds can be found here, such as rare black cranes .

Khardung La pass on the border with Tibet

In the morning you will take a trip to the Khardung La Pass . At an altitude of almost 5,350 m there is a spectacular view of the Himalayan Mountain range. Khardung La Pass is one of the highest mountains passes in the world. After this magnificent experience, you will drive back to Leh. Spend the afternoon in your own style.

LIKKIR - WHERE BUDDHA LOOKS OVER THE HIMALAYAS

Sitting Buddha in Likir Monastery, Ladakh.

Today you drive through breath taking landscapes to Lamayuru. On the way lies the wealthy Likir Monastery. Its "jewel", a 23 m high, seated Buddha , looks peacefully over the landscape. Your next destination, Alchi monastery is one of the most important historical sites in Asia. You visit the temple complex with well-preserved wall paintings and wood carvings from the 11th century. Through increasingly barren nature that resembles a lunar landscape, you reach Lamayuru in the afternoon and spend the night in the monastery's guest house on the top of an almost vertically sloping steep slope.

Today you have time to get to know the monastery, its residents and, if you want, the roots of Tibetan Buddhist culture. Enjoy the leisure to reflect and reflect. They have chosen one of the most idyllic places for it. What, you may ask, is it like to live in a Tibetan Buddhist monastery - far away from all the supposed achievements of Western culture. In the afternoon you take a trip to the Fotu La Pass, from which you have a seemingly endless view of the rugged mountain landscape.

OASIS IN THE BARREN HIMALAYAS

After breakfast, say goodbye to Lamayuru Monastery and drive back to LehEn route, visit the village of Uleytokpo, known for its lovingly tended gardens full of apricot trees. Enjoy your last afternoon in Leh.  

Rest of the day free to relax in Leh.

  • If booking is 15 days before the travel date: 100% refund for Domestic Packages.
  • if booking is 30 days before the travel date: 100% refund for International Packages.
  • Between 30 days to 15 date before the travel date 10% of the total cost will be deducted on International Packages.
  • Between 15 days to 1 Day before the travel date: 100% cancellation on Domestic & International Packages.
