In the 1630s, the road between Delhi and Agra was infested with cunning robbers. These thugs operated as a secret fraternity, attracting individuals from all walks of life, including beautiful women (thugeeni), who used to lure travellers (rahagir) into guest houses (sarais). On our walk, we uncover who these thugs were, who fell victim to them, how they operated, and how Delhi defended itself against this enigmatic cult.
